ELIGIBILTY
To be eligible under the program, the following is required:
1. Members must be a union member in good standing at the time of the ceremony.
2. Members must complete the required safety courses during the Qualifying Work Period.
3. Members must have worked the required number of Safe Hours during the Qualifying Work Period.
4. A Member who retires at the time of the raffle event, and who has completed the requirements during the Qualifying Work Period, will be eligible to participate in the raffle.
5. Members will be required to be present at the award ceremony in order for their name to be submitted into the raffle.
6. The minimum number of Safe Hours to participate in the Star Raffle is 800.
7. Members must register for the safety courses they will take throughout the Qualifying Work Period.
DEFINITIONS
Definitions are defined as follows:
1. Qualifying Work Period. A twelve (12) month period for the program term that is from July 1st to June 30th.
2. Safety Related Courses. Courses and training in environmental, personal protection and job safety related to his or her job responsibilities. An example of recommended courses:
a. Red Cross CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens
b. Respiratory Training
3. Safe Hours. Hours worked without missing a full day’s pay due to an on the job accident or injury or due to work-related illness for work performed during the Qualifying Work Period.
4. Member. Participants in the STAR Program are referred to as Members.
5. Member in Good Standing. An apprentice or journeyworker whose dues are currently paid and up to date. Members in good standing who are excluded from the raffle are business managers, local business agents and staff of the district council.
***For future years in the STAR Program, past grand prize winners are not eligible for the grand prize portion of the current raffle. They are, however, eligible for the prizes of lesser value***
